Board members from Community Link Foundation met recently to consider grant applications.
One of the successful applicants was Nugent Care who have been awarded £350 to hold lip reading classes and support for hard of hearing people and their families in Southport.
The Hear Here project provides fun, informative classes and deal with the day to day problems that face hard of hearing people. Each class incorporates techniques and coping mechanisms. They also hold events and social activities to encourage people to develop and practice their communication skills further.
Graham Maher, leader of the Hear Here project said: “The local community benefits from the Hear Here project activities because the issues of hearing loss and deafness is highlighted within their communities and they develop an understanding of the effects that hearing loss can have on people.
“Through community activities there is the opportunity to enable the participants to pass on skills they have learnt and knowledge they have gained to other members of the community. The confidence gained and the increased quality of life of the direct beneficiaries enables them to live more independent, fulfilling and productive lives and to be active within their communities.”
Nugent Care is a charity that offers a diverse range of support to adults and children across Liverpool and the North West. They are a social care provider who work with children, adults and community groups.
Enda Rylands, chairman of Community Link Foundation, said: “We are pleased to be able to help Nugent Care to provide this project in Southport and we wish them every success with it. We would urge people to continue to support Community Link Foundation so that we can assist more organisations like this in the future. “
